Approx. 70 U.S. billionaires have joined the "The
Giving Pledge" initiated by legendary Nebraska investor Warren Buffett and
Microsoft founder Bill Gates, gathering the amazing sum of U.S. $ 200 billion. Today, the superrich are faced
with a public increasingly skeptical of unfettered capitalism. Hundreds of
thousands have demonstrated worldwide against the power of business. Is it
really more than a pablum if a handful of the superwealthy donate half of their
staggering fortunes? What's the real motivation behind the high-profile
generosity? What moral high ground do they claim?
The doc makers accompanied Warren Buffett for 18
months, examining his motives and interviewing proponents and critics of his
initiative like Bill and Melinda Gates, German investor Nicolas Berggruen,
French baroness Ariane de Rothschild, social justice proponent and shipping
magnate Peter Kramer, as well as SAP founder Hasso Plattner - and with
protestors around the world from the Occupy movement, who are convinced it's
not enough.
