The Best Place to be

Katie and Jo still live in their tiny country village in Bavaria, dreaming of the good life and the big wide world. And now that they've graduated from high school, there's nothing holding them back. They swear a pact to go conquer the world and keep driving till they reach the horizon. But just as they're preparing to leave, their sometimes-boyfriends Mike and Lugge show up in their hamlet of Tandern again, throwing Katie off balance. And no surprise! Finally, Mike has already once turned her life upside down. But a vow is a vow, and so Katie and Jo take off in their beat-up old purple Mercedes-Benz, heading south across the Alps. Their rickety old jalopy only makes it to the top of the mountains, however, leaving them stranded in a lonely mountain village. News reaches Katie there that her beloved grandpa is dying, and her friendship with Jo is put to the test: While Jo's wanderlust burns ever stronger, Katie begins to doubt their big plans: Did she really want to leave her home, or is she just doing it for Jo's sake?

KATI und JO haben nie aufgehört, von der großen Freiheit zu träumen. Das Abi liegt hinter ihnen. Mit ihrem alten, lilafarbenen Benz brechen sie auf Richtung Süden. Und das, obwohl zuletzt Mike und Lugge wieder in Tandern aufgetaucht sind. Kati ist plötzlich ganz hin- und her gerissen und hält dennoch an ihrem Schwur fest. Eine Weltreise ohne Kompromiss!

Doch das Leben und die Liebe spielen anders: In einem winzigen Nest am Brenner ist Schluss. Der Wagen streikt und Kati erfährt, dass ihr geliebter Opa vielleicht im Sterben liegt. Die Heimat ruft und die Freundschaft von Kati und Jo wird auf eine harte Probe gestellt. Ist dies das Ende einer Weltreise oder das Ende einer Freundschaft?
