It was the symbol and embodiment of the Cold War: The Wall dividing the German capital in half violently tore apart families and friends, and brutally robbed innocent people of their lives, merely for the crime of wanting to be free. "The Berlin Wall" looks back to the year 1961, when John F. Kennedy made his famous "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech, all the way forward to Ronald Reagan's "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this Wall" challenge 1987, by way of the peace movement and student demonstrations against the Vietnam War, to the Velvet Revolution of 1989 that miraculously brought the Cold War from the brink of destruction to a peaceful resolution.
