In the Susanne Brunner homicide case, Anna-Maria Giovanoli's brother Mario is regarded as the prime suspect - with the manhunt at full speed. Since Anna-Maria's is biased,  Reto Doerig finds himself in charge of the investigations. The people of Morgenthal have their minds set on recluse Schwarzkittel as the killer of Susanne. The consequences prove to be almost fatal for the old man. Anna-Maria starts her own search for the truth, thereby incuring the wrath of the killer at large.
