Alexander wants so badly to win a painting competition at school so that he can impress Lotte, the girl he is in love with. After school, Alexander hangs out with his friends, including not only Lotte, but also his best friend and the class inventor Maulwurf. But when Maulwurf's latest discovery, the Perlmutterfarbe, unexpectedly lands in Alexander's hands, his life suddenly spins out of control. While the rest of the class is looking for the thief, Alexander keeps quiet as to the whereabouts of Maulwurf's newest invention and tells a little white lie. Gruber, an unpopular boy, knows that Alexander has what the class is looking for, but covers for Alexander, using the situation to his own advantage. Alexander gets tangled up in a web of lies and distances himself more and more from his friends, while Gruber pits their class up against another class who he claims has the Perlmutterfarbe...

Der Schüler Alexander (Markus Krojer) würde so gern den großen Malwettbewerb seiner Schule gewinnen, um seiner Mitschülerin Lotte (Zoë Mannhardt) zu imponieren, in die er verliebt ist. Nach Schulschluss verbringt Alexander seine Zeit am liebsten mit ein paar Klassenkameraden, zu denen neben Lotte auch sein bester Freund und Klassentüftler Maulwurf (Dominik Nowak) gehört. Als der Zufall ihm Maulwurfs neueste Erfindung, die PERLMUTTERFARBE, in die Hände spielt, gerät Alexanders Leben aus den Fugen. In der Klasse wird fieberhaft nach dem Dieb gefahndet, aber statt mit der Wahrheit herauszurücken, greift Alexander zu einer Notlüge. Gruber (Benedikt Hösl), ein unliebsamer Klassenkamerad, deckt Alexander und nutzt dessen Abhängigkeit für seine Zwecke. Geschickt lenkt er den Verdacht auf die Parallelklasse und tritt eine Hetzkampagne los. Alexander verstrickt sich in ein Lügengespinst und entfernt sich immer weiter von Maulwurf und seinen Freunden, während Gruber die beiden Klassen hinterhältig gegeneinander ausspielt...
