The new officer reminds Tauber of his younger self: unconventional, daring, courageous. Dennis Asevic is a 29-year-old chief inspector called in to assist in the search for the serial killer of two school children. Tauber's partner Jo Obermaier as well as several other inspectors don't like him because he behaves like cops in 1970s French crime movies. Asevic is the kind of guy who might rough up a suspect, break and enter without a warrant and pursue someone in a high speed car chase. But there is a monster on the loose and Asevic can be very likable. Tauber falls for his charm. Until Asevic shoots and kills a suspect right in front of Tauber's eyes. The young officer, Tauber identified and bonded with, turns out to be a highly intelligent, sadistic psychopath who wants to personally execute the serial killer. What ensues is a ferocious struggle between the two men. It will be Tauber's last case.
