The Versailles Treaty requires the German government
to disband the Freikorps, well-armed militias made up of WW I veterans.
Influential military and business leaders side with the militiamen, organizing
a Freikorps march on Berlin. The leftist government has to flee. A national
worker's strike paralyzes the right-wing coup. After five days, the putsch is
defeated, thanks to the people's growing sense of democratic pride.
