Coal, Steel and Copper - Monuments of Industrial History (21/21)

The Industrial Revolution changed our world and our lives fundamentally and forever. It is only right then that the key landmarks in this cultural shift be designated World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, to be celebrated for their part in the history of humankind.

The iron & steel and textile industries were the foundations on which the Industrial Revolution was built.
The image of thousands of whirring spindles on spinning machines epitomized industrialization. At one time the New Lanark mill employed 2,000 people, 500 of them were children. This was to be the birthplace of one of the most successful social ideas ever, thanks to Robert Owen, who took over management of the mill around 1800. 
The Völklingen Ironworks is the base station for Max Moor's documentary journey to the industrial history monuments that have been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The Crespi family textile factory, the Falun Copper mine and the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex are just some of these important landmarks in the history of industrialization.
