The 50th parallel runs clear across Europe, across the most varied of
landscapes. An expedition led by Jens-Uwe Heins und Felix Heidinger set out to
trace the parallel around the world - to find out how much its landscape, its
flora and fauna change, and how much it stay the same. What they come up with
is remarkable: breathtaking vistas which could hardly be more different, from
cultivated European farmland to deserts with enormous temperate swings, active
volcanoes, steaming geysers to arctic cold and the vast reaches of the great
oceans. The doc series "50th Parallel" offers five installments on
one and the same latitude in all its multifaceted forms - with some intimate
glimpses at the personal lives of the film crew as well.
