The operator of a newly renovated hotel is found dead. He was pushed out of the window of his office. The safe in the office has been broken into. Everything indicates a robbery-homicide. Beissl and Jerry quickly come up with a possible motive for the crime: the man who was killed consistently refused to pay the craftsmen involved in the renovation. Beissl and Jerry set out to find the murderer in the environment of the betrayed craftsmen.
One of the injured parties increasingly becomes the focus of the investigation: a carpenter who is a friend of Beissl. But the resolute boss of the painters' company is also under suspicion. Did she take the money from the safe? Both of them firmly reject the suspicions. But what if it wasn't one of the craftsmen? The hotel's long-time concierge also becomes the suspect in the investigation.
