Julia is a trainee police officer living in Cologne. In Lydia she has found a friend and advisor, while her academy trainer, the paternal but tough Chief Inspector Roosen, always has his eye on her. Julia is the baby of the group, unbiased and curious. In addition to her demanding classes, she is always on call for her paraplegic father, Wolfgang. Her mother died shortly after she was born.
When Julia starts falling for the mysterious Nick, she has no idea he is involved in a dark plot with Keppler from the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Germany’s domestic intelligence agency. It involves a group of formerly homeless youths, who occupy an abandoned sawmill in the ruins of the Westwall in the Eifel Forest. They are led by Ira, who swears to the kids that she will soon exact “bloody revenge” on the system that simply spat them out. Ira runs firearms drills with the kids, while her right-hand man, Karl, makes bombs in an abandoned bunker.
