Chris calls in sick at the Palace and accepts that her solo will now be performed by Bettina. Then Chris asks Lilia's father, Alexander Bachmann, a musician at the Palace, to look after his daughter for a few days. With her sister's passport, she crosses the heavily guarded inner-German border.
In the meantime, preparations for the next show "Dream Visions" begin at the Palace. The ensemble learns that a guest choreographer has been hired from England. At the evening show Bettina Wilke shines as Chris' substitute.
The encounter with their long-lost parents becomes an emotional challenge for the sisters. Marlene sits at her mother's bedside, touched. While Marlene plays her role almost perfectly and keeps the secret safe, Chris’ lying is uncovered by Doris at a business dinner she attends in Bavaria. In private, the stepmother unmasks the twin from the East.
The father, Roland Wenninger, is confronted with the past and with the lie he has hidden for almost thirty years.
Chris learns that her father separated the babies and took Marlene with him to Bavaria in a cloak-and-dagger operation. He wanted to blackmail Rosa into living with him in the West. But Rosa, a loyal citizen of the GDR, did not want to leave her country. When Roland realized the gravity of his action, he turned back. But it was too late and border guards were rolling out barbed wire. This was the night of August 13th, 1961, the night the Berlin Wall was built.
Chris is devastated when she hears this.
