Barbara Gruber, a dazzling figure in the local political scene, is killed in her home right before the state elections. Shortly before her death she had burst into the party of her political opponent, Volker Haas. Did he get rid of his unpleasant rival? Her sister Christa Gruber directs the suspicion to the married architect Hans Wörner, with whom Barbara had a love affair until half a year ago. But Christa herself comes under suspicion, as she wanted to sell their childhood home to Volker Haas, her sister's arch-enemy. And then Ghali Bassir appears, a refugee whom Barbara Gruber wanted to marry.
