Frank Mulliger, heir to the family sawmill, admits to having been completely drunk on the night of the murders, but at the time they happened he was at the party – even Susann can confirm that.
During the examination of Frank's car, Simon confirms again that this was the sound he heard. Kägi orders the team to look into anyone else who might own the same model of car. Susann is listening intently – her husband Georg Walter has precisely this make of Nissan. When the investigators arrive at Walter's farm, a totally distraught Susann is already there. Her husband admits to the triple murder. He was trying to prevent Corinne from discovering that years previously he killed the man who raped his daughter Jeannette. The couple are interviewed separately.
Georg tells Kägi about the night of the crime, about the fact that it was Lenny's mother herself who had told him that her son was the rapist and about Corinne's threat that she could bring the entire Schürch case to light. At the same time, Rosa learns from Susann, how deeply Jeannette's horrible death had changed her life. Georg was consumed with a need for revenge, but her thoughts had turned to suicide. To get some justice for Jeanette, Georg shot Lenny and threw his body in the river. For Kägi, Georg's confession ends the years-long search for the man who raped his sister.
A few days later, Kägi and Rosa go to check in on Susann and realize that she has deceived them. Despite the fact that he had raped their daughter, Susann's own sense of justice had prevented her from allowing Lenny to be killed and instead she and Georg had been keeping him prisoner. That is what Corinne had discovered and that was why Georg had followed her and shot her. Artan and Faton were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Georg's confession was supposed to give Susann time to finish what they had started and complete Lenny’s punishment. But Susann can't bring herself to do it. There is a confrontation in Lenny's cell and Rosa and Kägi are finally able to arrest him for his crimes – but Susann dies in Rosa's arms.
