Kägi shows Rosa the newspaper article with the photo of the barman Toni, who the witness knew as Oliver Hartmann. Eight years previously, he had attacked a prostitute and then went into hiding in Thallingen under the name Toni Amberg. It was precisely at this time that Jeanette was raped. Kägi is convinced that this is the man who raped his sister. When the two detectives confront the barman with these accusations, he denies having anything to do with the rapes or the murders. However, he does claim to have witnessed an argument at the sawmill party between Charles Mulliger, the old lady Sophie and Corinne who was killed that same night.
When Rosa and Susann confront Charles and Sophie with Toni's statement, an old story comes to light: Sophie's family was saved from Nazi Germany by Charles' father Alfons Mulliger. Sophie worked as a maid for the family but then Alfons raped her and continued to do so, until one night she fought back. During the scuffle, a shot rang out. The 13-year old Charles, who was madly in love with Sophie, had shot his father. In order to protect him, Sophie incriminated an innocent man by the name of Max Schürch who then killed himself. Rosa deduces that Corinne had discovered their secret and must have been blackmailing Charles. She arrests Charles on suspicion of murder. Meanwhile, Kägi is continuing to pursue the trail of the amulet found on Corinne's body. Without success, he interviews the home care patients that she had been looking after. Finally, the detective hits on the idea that the serial rapist was perhaps a taxi driver. In fact, Kägi had seen, at the home of one of the patients, a photo of a taxi driver – a man called Lenny Schürch, son of Ms Kessler and Max Schürch. However, he disappeared without a trace a number of years previously.
Meanwhile Simon has been staying in Kägi’s campervan where he injures himself trying to gut a fish. He goes looking for a bandage and instead finds the documents detailing his mother's rape. Realizing the truth about his father, he confronts his mother. Agitated and upset, he reaches out to Adelina, but she refuses to have any contact with him. As he is about to drive away, he hears the same ring tone that he heard on the night of the murder. It is the warning signal from Frank Mulliger's car.
