Animal bite marks on a murder victim, a missing suspect and a witness who knows she’s unreliable combine to create a very difficult case for Von Meuffels. None of which is helped by the fact that the witness is his friend and colleague and the woman he loves.
Chief Inspector Hanns von Meuffels is in love with his Hamburg-based colleague Constanze Hermann, who has checked herself into a wellness center in a little Bavarian village to deal with her alcoholism. One night, in a drunken state, Constanze encounters a wolf-like figure in the center, which she believes to be an alcohol-fueled delusion. The next morning, however, a young woman is found murdered, her face disfigured by bite marks. Von Meuffels takes over the investigation and allows Constanze to participate. The trail leads to a Turk by the name of Mehmet Özhan, who breeds dogs on an isolated farm where he also keeps a semi-domesticated wolf. He had been in a relationship with the murdered woman, who had been poisoned according to the autopsy. The detectives discover that Özhan had previously been a member of the extreme right-wing Turkish party called the "Grey Wolves", was being protected by the BND (German Federal Intelligence Service) and has now disappeared...
