There are still around 20,000 wild yaks living far out in the huge and inaccessible steppe of China's Wild West. For the first time ever, a western camera team set out on the trail of these impressive upland bovids; they experienced their power and beauty and also the dangers they pose, after all these colossal animals can weigh up to a ton. At the same time, the team followed the work of a group of scientists as they research the significance of the wild yaks for the recovery and further development of China. It is thought that the wild yak could contribute to creating a new food resource.
